Take a walk through the Lower Garden District and visit the Wetlands Sake Brewery.
The first sake brewery in NOLA, Wetland’s Sake opened its taproom not long ago, and it’s already begun to attract tourists and locals.
Located in a converted warehouse space, they feature sakes crafted on-site — visitors can even glimpse the brewers in action through their large picture windows overlooking the facility.
Fun fact: Sake is an all-natural fermented alcoholic beverage made from rice and other ingredients, and Louisiana is the nation’s third-largest producer of rice.
They have nine craft sakes on tap, including:
- Traditional sakes
- Sake cocktails
- Sparkling sakes
They also rotate their tap list regularly, so explorers always have something new to try. Check out what is on tap on any given week here.
If you’re visiting Wetland’s with a group of friends, don’t hesitate to ask for their flights, where for only $25 you can choose any four sakes.
Their most popular cocktails include:
Sakerita
Margarita-adjacent with fresh lime juice, salt & spirulina
Spicy Sake Paloma
Homemade shrub with grapefruit juice & lime juice with a slight kick from chile de arbol
Blueberry Lemon Sake
Blueberry lemonade with a hint of lavender
Secret tip: There are some non-alcoholic options available for non-drinkers.
