Tacos Del Cartel Is The Explosion Of Flavor And Color We Didn’t Know We Needed

Metairie just got a new taco spot, and it’s to die for.

Tacos Del Cartel just opened in Metairie last week, and we’re already obsessed. It’s an authentic Mexican restaurant specializing in street tacos and mezcal, and it’s gorgeous. Picture a classy lounge exploding with vibrant colors and pink flowers literally dripping from the ceiling.

Every corner of the place is Instagrammable and it has the cool vibe of a chill nightclub. Low lit with neon lights, the restaurant is adorned with skulls, chandeliers and cool transparent furniture.

And we haven’t even gotten to the food yet! Tacos Del Cartel was put together sparing no detail. The restaurant has an extensive menu of street tacos for every taste. The menu includes everything from favorites like carnitas and tacos al pastor to veggie options like tofu and mushroom tacos, all on freshly made corn tortillas (they also offer flour tortillas on request).

The restaurant makes it a point to do everything just as it’s done in Mexico, from the recipes and processes to the way the meats are cured, and then adds a twist of California style.

Tacos Del Cartel also carefully curated their cocktail menu, prioritizing mezcal instead of the usual tequila. In fact, the bar is held down by renowned mixologist Ismael Martinez, who creates a host of divine signature cocktails for anyone in need of a tasty pick-me-up.

An interesting must-try selection off the menu is their signature Día de Muerto Old Fashioned, made with Espadin Mezcal, Vermouth, fat washed Nutella and Orange saccharum, served on the rocks. Drooling yet?

Tacos Del Cartel is officially open to the public! Guests can make a reservation to dine-in (via Resy), pull up to the drive-thru, or order online (via ChowNow).
