“Now boarding” will once again have new meaning as skateboarders from New Orleans and across the U.S. will converge for a content-driven competition at MSY’s vacant airport terminal.
For the second year, the old Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport terminal will turn into the ultimate destination for park and street skateboarding. Empty concourses will take on new life as skate runways and old benches get an edgy upgrade. New York Design and Construction will create four custom-built parks (up from three last year); modifying escalators into ramps and quiet hallways into a plywood paradise for amateur and professional skaters alike. In short, it’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in real life.
New Orleans’ best skaters will be joined by crews from all over the country who will use their skills and imagination to film the best two-minute video possible featuring everything that can be done on a board in the new and improved terminal-turned-skatepark.
After spending two days grinding old baggage claims and descending escalators on four wheels, the teams will head home to edit the footage they captured into a two-minute clip. That video will then be posted for a nationwide vote on redbull.com to determine a winner who will receive a $5,000 prize to benefit their local skate scene.
