April is almost over, which means we have to start planning for one of May’s most important dates: Mothers Day. Celebrate mom by taking her to one of the best restaurants in New Orleans. Our list showcases top eateries that offer special menus for their day.
1. Commons Club
Commons Club, Virgin Hotels New Orleans’ signature eatery and go-to for dining and imbibing, invites diners to celebrate Mother’s Day with an unforgettable brunch spread curated by Executive Chef Alex Harrell. Diners can indulge in Mother’s Day specials in addition to Commons Club favorites like the Gulf Shrimp and Bayou Cora Grits with smoky tomato and fennel broth; ‘Churro’ Fritters with cinnamon sugar and dulce de leche; Crispy Boudin with red corn grits, sunny-side-up egg, and red-eye gravy; and more. All moms will receive complimentary flowers upon arrival. Commons Club will also open for dinner from 5 PM-10 PM with the signature a la carte menu. Mother’s Day Brunch is available on Sunday, May 8, from 11 AM-2 PM.
2. Tujague’s
Look no further than Tujague’s, the Crescent City’s second-oldest restaurant and the birthplace of brunch, for a celebratory Mother’s Day. In honor of the holiday, Chef Gus Martin has curated a festive three-course menu with specialty offerings such as house-made Boudin Balls served with pepper jelly; Crawfish Cakes + Eggs – topped with poached eggs and sauce choron, finished with a classic étouffée sauce; Veal Piccata – pan-seared veal scallopini with a rich lemon caper butter sauce, served with parmesan polenta; and for dessert, a Louisiana Strawberry Shortcake with sweet double cream, among others. Mother’s Day Brunch will take place on Sunday, May 8 from 10 AM-2:30 PM. The restaurant will open for dinner from 5 PM-9 PM.
3. Jack Rose
Mom is sure to have an over-the-top Mother’s Day at Jack Rose, the lively restaurant located inside the Garden District’s Pontchartrain Hotel. In addition to the signature a la carte brunch, Jack Rose will feature special Mother’s Day brunch additions curated by Chef/Owner Brian Landry. Signature offerings include Chicken + Waffles – maple and cane syrup; Fried Shrimp + Grits – étouffée sauce; and 1 & 1 Burger – cheddar cheese, hickory sauce. Guests can also enjoy seasonal dishes such as Green Curry Noodles – chili crisp, corn, charred bok choy, six-minute egg; and a Crawfish Frittata – crawfish, tomatoes, lemon. Specialty Mimosas choice of passion fruit, blueberry hibiscus, or kiwi are also available. Mother’s Day Brunch will take place on Sunday, May 8 from 11 AM-2 PM.
4. Toups Meatery
Sweep mom off her feet with contemporary Cajun cuisine at Toups’ Meatery. Chef Isaac Toups’ flagship restaurant will offer Mother’s Day brunch and dinner on Sunday, May 8. Dinner specials include Platinum Steaks and Isaac’s wildly popular Louisiana Crawfish Pies. The signature brunch and dinner menus will be available, including the famed Meatery Board and fan-favorite Seared Venison Loin. Not-to-be-missed are the stellar Bottomless Mimosas. Toups’ Meatery is located at 845 North Carrollton Avenue in New Orleans. Sunday Brunch is served from 10 AM–3 PM. Dinner is served from 5 PM–10 PM.
5. Birdy’s Behind The Bower
This Mother’s Day, locals and visitors alike are welcome to indulge in Birdy’s signature a la carte brunch featuring Southern-inspired, locally sourced American cuisine. Signature items include Fried Chicken Biscuit – crispy chicken thigh, chicken sausage, jalapeño, and cane syrup country gravy; Avocado Toast – farm radish, sunflowers seeds, orange, chili flakes, with a farm salad; Deep-Dish Chocolate Pecan Pie – salted butter caramel sauce and whipped cream; a Biscuit Board and decadent Brunch Board served with a donut, granola, slab bacon, hot coppa, bubble waffle, fruit, seasonal jam, mini cookies, mini pancakes, house syrup, triple cream cheese, and soft boiled eggs. Birdy’s is open for Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 8 from 8 AM-3 PM.
6. Mister Mao
Looking for a Mother’s Day mom will never forget? Look no further than Chef Sophina Uong’s tropical roadhouse restaurant Mister Mao. The eatery will open for Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 8 from 11 AM-2 PM with an array of “inauthentic” globally inspired dishes such as Kashmiri Hot Chicken Benedict served on a Hawaiian pineapple roll with a Vidalia onion milk gravy and sunny eggs; Braised Pork Chilaquiles; Dumplings and Jelly Doughnuts with hibiscus and blood orange sugar. Creative brunch libations are also available, like the Thunderclap – tequila, grapefruit + coffee science espresso; and the Hellfire Mary – Tabasco mash infused vodka, tomato, and sumac pickle.
7. M.I.N.O. Brunch at Southern Food & Beverage Museum
Join Made In New Orleans (MINO) Foundation at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum for a special Mother’s Day Brunch pop-up featuring Chef Kiall Wilson, a MINO Foundation Culinary Scholarship Program Recipient, alumni of Liberty’s Kitchen, and graduate of International Culinary Center. Priced at $55 per person, guests will enjoy a three-course brunch and live music. Menu items include Corn & Crab Bisque, Chicken & Savory French Toast, Hangar Steak, and more. A Bottomless mimosa bar presented by Turning Tables is available for an additional $10 per person. Seatings are available at Noon and 2 PM only
