This will be regardless of their vaccination status.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell has made mask-wearing indoors compulsory for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. COVID-19 cases have increased in the last weeks.
“The alarming transmission data we’ve seen in the last two weeks, coupled with an inadequate vaccination rate, leaves us no choice,” said New Orleans Health Department Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno. “People who continue to refuse to take the lifesaving COVID vaccine are now also putting the entire community in jeopardy; We must take action now to slow the rapid spread of the Delta variant.”
This indoor mask advisory means that people will have to wear masks in indoor settings when surrounded by other individuals who are not from their immediate circle.
The city’s mask mandate was lifted in May, and it was only required for unvaccinated people.
According to the New Orleans Communications Director, new restrictions could come back or be implemented, and future events like the Jazz Festival could be canceled or postponed yet again.
