The stage is almost set for an exciting new Jazz bar coming to New Orleans.
Mid-City is about to see a new music venue pop onto the scene in New Orleans. The venue will be located on the corner of North Broad and Toulouse.
Owner of the building, Sam Smith Jr. has built the stage and club from scratch, steadily realizing his dream of opening a Jazz venue in New Orleans and making sure it comes true.
The venue will be called Dodie’s, named after Smith’s sister. It’s distinctively placed outside the usual jazz hotspots such as the French Quarter and Frenchman Street, due to the owners desire to expand the scene across the entire city.
The news couldn’t have come at a better time too. The City of New Orleans have recently eased COVID restrictions to allow live music in venues.
The new location has a spot for a sound booth, a stage, a dance floor, 14 tables, a bar and an adjoining patio. There’s even a kitchen, with the owner wanting to hire a restauranteur to help with the project.
This exciting new addition to the jazz scene in NOLA is a complete passion project from Smith. Funded, built and planned by the owner, it’s faced several obstacles on its journey to fruition. But all those hurdles with planning permission, and City Hall are behind him, and the venue shall be opening soon. However, there isn’t a concrete opening date as of yet.
Dodie’s is located at 601-15 N. Broad St.
Keep your eyes peeled, New Orleans!
