New Orleans is best known as the birthplace of jazz, but the city has strong links to rock music too. It’s believed that the rock genre originated from rhythm and blues music, which itself was inspired greatly by jazz sounds and melodies back in the 1940s. NOLA has a deep connection with the rock genre, and this season, this spellbinding Candlelight rock concert is coming to light up the city to pay tribute to famous rock songs with the help of Listeso String Quartet and a sea of twinkling candles.
Scottish Rite Temple will be lit up by thousands of candles during this enchanting evening that celebrates all things rock. From “Sweet Home Alabama” to “Sweet Child o’ Mine”, songs that need no introduction will be given a classical makeover inside one of New Orleans’ most remarkable venues.
Candlelight Tribute to Rock Classics
Since its emergence in the 1950s, rock has become one of the most popular genres in music. Song such as “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and“Stairway to Heaven” are some of the biggest hits of the past 50 or so years, and bands including Guns n’ Roses and Led Zeppelin have left a huge mark on popular culture thanks to their musical styles, fashion and live performances.
This season, Candlelight is paying homage to the songs that have helped form the rock music landscape by putting a classical spin on iconic hits. Bon Jovi’s “Livin on a Prayer”, David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?”, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” and more famous rock tunes will be performed by Listeso String Quartet inside the historic Scottish Rite Temple. Guitars and drums are swapped out for violins, a viola and a cello at this magnificent tribute concert that will be illuminated by the warm glow of candlelight.
