New Orleans is home to some of the most haunted spots in the US. The city’s streets teem with tales of voodoo, spirits and ghostly legends, so it’s no surprise that there are so many fun Halloween plans to choose from when October comes around. This fall, residents and visitors can add a frighteningly exciting evening to their calendars with this Halloween Candlelight concert. It’s a spook-tastic show of Halloween songs and horror-themed scores played by classically-trained musicians amid a sea of candles.
Think the hair-raising melodies of John Carpenter’s “Halloween Theme”, Danny Efman’s “Beetlejuice Theme”, Ray Parker Jr.’ “Ghostbusters Theme”, among others. Taking place at an emblematic spot in New Orleans, The Sazerac House, you will be completely enveloped in the warm glow of hundreds of glimmering candles. So sit back, relax and may this spooky season be the darkest, scariest time of year!
A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics
Candlelight invites you to an evening dedicated to celebrating the evocative melodies of Halloween classics. These tunes revolve around the theme of death and the supernatural that is so fascinating and alluring for so many of us. For instance, the Beetlejuice theme captures the film’s unique and eccentric world, where the supernatural and the absurd collide.
Sain-Saëns’ “Danse Macabre” is a symbolic representation of the universality of death, and features death playing a fiddle to summon the dead from their graves, a piece filled with orchestral effects that further enhance its eerie nature. Whereas Schubert’s “Der Erlkönig” explores the contrast between the real world and the supernatural world filled with the allure of the unknown. These and many more compositions will be brought to life by the talented Delachaise Ensemble at the chilling Sazerac House, a place filled with all the spooky stories of New Orleans.
If you’re looking for a new way to celebrate Halloween, why not spend it by listening to eerie and chilling songs that have not only been ingrained in our minds, but are also a great part of pop culture? Shows will begin in October, with two performances each evening, at 6:30pm and 9pm, which gives you enough time to plan a pre- or post-show dinner as well.
