Esquire magazine has just released its annual list of “Best Bars in America,” a roundup of 25 spots around the country worth the trip. And two New Orleans spots have made the cut: Jewel of the South and Peychauds. Both places are praised for their great Sazeracs, so if you don’t know where to go this weekend, these are great options.
1. Jewel of the South
“Bartender Chris Hannah is one of the pillars of cocktail culture and knowledge in New Orleans, and thus a national treasure,” they write about this NOLA Staple. They also recommend patrons to try their Sazerac, do you agree?
Where: 1026 St Louis Street
2. Peychauds
The second bar on the list is Peychauds, a fabulous outdoor spot that opened in the middle of the pandemic and just became mainstream a few months ago. “This building was the home of Antoine Peychaud, whose namesake bitters are the key ingredient to the granddaddy of NOLA cocktails, the Sazerac,” they write about this spot. They also recommend Peychaud’s Fizz, “a refreshing aperitivo that will stave off the humidity in the Quarter.”
Where: 727 Toulouse Street
